Abstract:
After the success of the 2008 offshore project Thornton Bank Phase 1 (6 x REpower 5M), Belgian developer C-Power awarded REpower Systems SE the contract for supply, installation and commissioning of 48 REpower 6M turbines in two further phases during the years 2012 and 2013. In 2012, REpower successfully installed and commissioned the 24 WTGs of phase II and, 1 year ahead of schedule, further 6 WTGs of phase III.
The installation of all 48 turbines for the project will be completed at the time of the Windforce 2013 according to the current planning.
For the time being the Thornton Bank Windfarm is now the biggest project of the 6MW+ class in the world. The presentation will comprise an overview on the experiences with the planning and execution of this challenging project, with a focus on the offshore activities. Insight in the operational performance will be given and selected major lessons learned and keys to success will be discussed. Based on the successes and challenges faced, REpower’s vision on the execution of future projects will be provided.
